Georgetown, Penang – From August 8 to 9, Ambassador McFeeters visited Penang and met business, corporate leaders, and senior government representatives. The Ambassador’s visit focused on U.S.-Penang cooperation in economic investment, high-skilled employment, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
During his visit, Ambassador McFeeters visited several U.S. companies. He met senior leaders from Hewlett Packard, Abbot, National Instruments, and Motorola Solutions and discussed investment opportunities and the companies’ initiatives to promote ESG standards in their operations. He also learned about the companies’ future growth plans and their support for high-skilled jobs in Penang.
In addition, Ambassador McFeeters met with Invest Penang to further understand Penang’s current business climate, its approach to investment challenges and opportunities, as well as its adoption of ESG standards. He also discussed the importance of talent development, and supply chain resilience during Malaysia’s economic recovery with CEO Dato’ Loo Lee Lian and Special Investment Advisor to the Chief Minister of Penang, Dato’ Seri Lee Kah Choon.
Ambassador McFeeters attended the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association’s Silicon Penang 50 Dinner on August 8. He celebrated the contributions of several U.S. companies in transforming Penang to become the Silicon Valley of the East since their establishment in Penang 50 years ago. The event highlighted the success of U.S. businesses in generating opportunities for economic growth, high-skilled employment, and technological advancement in Penang.
Finally, Ambassador McFeeters engaged the robust U.S. business community in Penang through a roundtable hosted by the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce on August 9. In addition to highlighting the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, he discussed the promotion of ESG standards and the Embassy’s support for continued U.S. exports to and investment in Malaysia.
Expressing his gratitude to the business leaders and partners he met, Ambassador McFeeters said, “I am thrilled Penang continues to be a solid partner with U.S. companies in promoting high-tech investments, skilled job opportunities, global ESG standards and supply chain resiliency. The U.S. Embassy is committed to building stronger business ties with Penang and strengthening the enduring commercial partnership between the United States and Malaysia for many more years to come.”
