KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo met with Malaysia’s Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Annuar bin Musa. The Secretary highlighted the Biden Administration’s broader objective of working with like-minded partners across the Indo-Pacific on an economic framework to strengthen economies on both sides of the Pacific.
The Secretary and Minister also discussed shared goals for the expansion and deployment of secure 5G networks and advanced telecommunications opportunities, which builds on the historic U.S.-Malaysia collaboration on cybersecurity. Secretary Raimondo highlighted opportunities to enhance collaboration on cross-border data flows such as through participation in the APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules System. The Secretary and Minister explored deepening cooperation on new, innovative technology and digital economy issues that will further strengthen both countries’ commercial relationship.
