KUALA LUMPUR – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with Malaysia’s Minister of International Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
Ambassador Tai congratulated Minister Zafrul on his ministerial appointment and thanked him for the hospitality during her first trip to Malaysia. They discussed the importance of advancing the U.S.-Malaysia trade and investment relationship. Ambassador Tai and Minister Zafrul also welcomed the positive developments in the development of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and discussed the schedule for continued negotiations in 2023.
Ambassador Tai shared U.S. economic priorities for the U.S. APEC host year, which would build on the foundations of the Putrajaya Vision endorsed during Malaysia’s 2020 APEC host year. Ambassador Tai said she looked forward to welcoming Malaysia to the United States for APEC engagements over the course of this year.
Ambassador Tai and Minister Zafrul agreed to remain connected on these and other important priorities.
