Event: Message for U.S. Citizens: Extension of Temporary Suspension of Importation of Dogs from Malaysia to the United States
On July 6, 2023 the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a Notice of Extension of Temporary Suspension of Dogs Entering the United States from Countries with a High Risk of Rabies, extending the suspension through July 31, 2024. The suspension includes importation of dogs from countries classified by the CDC as high risk for dog rabies, to include Malaysia, and countries that are NOT at high risk if the dogs have been in high-risk countries in the past six months. The CDC did not modify dog importation requirements for this extension.
Eligible individuals can apply for a CDC Dog Import Permit. For more information, please contact CDC or U.S. Customs and Border Protection directly.
