Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Edgard Kagan and staff from the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur honored the spirit of Ramadan by sharing “Buka Puasa” with over one hundred children and administrators at “Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim Al-Sagaff, Selayang,” a home for Rohingya refugee children.

In his remarks, DCM Kagan applauded the home owner, Tuan Syed Mohsen Al-Sagaff, for his leadership and dedication to providing a safe haven for displaced children. He noted that giving children access to education provides them with hope for their future.

The Embassy partnered with Mikey’s New York Pizza to share an authentic American favorite with the children. For many it was their first time having pizza, waffle fries, and dips.

Mikey’s owner Mr. Michael Helfman was also present to support the noble cause. He joined DCM Kagan in interacting with the children and distributing goodie bags from the Embassy.

Prior to the “Buka Puasa”, the children enjoyed a clown appearance and lined up for different types of balloons, based on their individual preference.
