During the last few weeks of his 10-month assignment with the English Language Teaching Center (ELTC) at the Ministry of Education, Senior English Language Fellow Dr. George Iber continued delivering talks and conducting workshops with Malaysian audiences.  Dr. Iber was a panelist at the second annual Cooler Lumpur Festival, which was funded by a PA grant and which brought together writers, artists, musicians, and thinkers from across the globe to create new connections, share new ideas, and catalyze Malaysia and the region’s cultural conversation.  At the festival, Dr. Iber also conducted a workshop for parents and educators on The Natural Approach for Teaching English to Children.

Subsequently, Dr. Iber concluded his project for remedial language learners with a 5-day workshop for master trainers about the new module to help teachers coach slower learners.  Dr. Iber also presented a talk on Achieving English Language Competency in Malaysia to more than 90 students, teacher trainees and faculty members of UNITAR International University and International Languages Teacher Training Institute.  Dr. Iber shared his view on the achievable goals in English language education within the local context.  Dr. Iber’s tenure ended with a warm farewell reception, organized by the ELTC, which also served as an Iftar dinner in observation of the Ramadan fasting month.
