The U.S. Embassy Malaysia seeks to improve English Language learning and promote the effective use of English as a medium of global communication throughout Malaysia.  Our activities also help to foster mutual understanding between the American and Malaysian people.

Some of the programs, services and resources offered include:

The English Language Fellow Program

The English Language Fellow Program –  U.S. educators in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) participate in ten-month exchanges abroad at host country universities, ministries of education, and other educational institutions. English Language Fellows share their expertise and engage with the community, while participating in a professional development opportunity. Upon returning to the United States, they share their experiences and acquired knowledge with their communities and professional colleagues.

The English Language Specialist Program

The English Language Specialist Program –  The English Language Specialist Program sends U.S. experts in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) to work on short-term projects that contribute to the host country’s capacity to teach English and post’s public diplomacy goals. English Language Specialists support two-week to five-month projects at a variety of institutions and levels, mainly in the areas of teacher training, materials writing, and curriculum development. The program can also provide specialists via digital video conference (DVC) or webinar, as a standalone program or as one element of a multi-phase program.

The English Access Microscholarship Program

The English Access Microscholarship Program – Provides a foundation of English language skills to talented youth from economically disadvantaged sectors through after school classes and intensive sessions. The program gives participants English skills that may lead to better jobs and educational prospects. Participants also gain the ability to compete for and participate in future exchanges and study in the United States.

Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program

Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program – Is designed for English language teachers, teacher trainers, and administrators of English language programs who are committed to their own professional development and willing to contribute to the mentorship and professional advancement of their colleagues as well.
