On June 10, the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia hosted another session in its series of Embassy-sponsored foreign policy speaker programs. The session, entitled “Lessons from the Past: Strengthening Trade and Reform Agenda for Sustainable Growth in the Region and Beyond,” featured speakers Mr. Jim Loi, former Senior Foreign Service Officer (FSO) and current Chief Operating Officer at the Asia Group, and Dr. Jayant Menon, Visiting Senior Fellow at ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute Singapore. The discussion, attended by over 70 participants, explored the new and existing sources of trade growth that could be developed and strengthened by the U.S. and Malaysia to build resilience in the coming years. The session also discussed the direction of foreign economic policy under the Biden Administration and its strategies for international economic engagement. Embassy KL Deputy Economic Counselor Andrew Johnson opened the session with remarks on U.S. trade and economic policy initiatives in the region.
