Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Representatives from more than 25 U.S. colleges and universities engaged Malaysian students, parents, and teachers in Kuala Lumpur on March 11, kicking off the EducationUSA fairs after a  two year hiatus due to the pandemic.  The second fair took place in Penang on March 12, providing Malaysians in the north an opportunity to meet with U.S. higher education representatives.

Launching the fair in Kuala Lumpur, Ambassador McFeeters emphasized the tremendous benefits the United States offers to Malaysians interested in studying abroad.  “The U.S. higher education system remains unrivaled and continues to attract future leaders from around the world.  With a strong commitment to academic freedom, diversity, and inclusion, U.S. colleges and universities instill critical thinking skills and democratic values.  Malaysians who choose to study in the US also have an unparalleled opportunity to engage with other students from around the world and work with renowned faculty.  I encourage more Malaysians to consider the United States as their top choice for higher education.”

U.S. embassy consular staff gave informative presentations, demystifying the student visa application process.  Malaysian alumni talked about their educational and cultural experiences from American campus life, as well as their career choices and pathways to success.  The fairs provided a unique opportunity for students, parents, and educators to speak directly with admissions officers from different U.S. universities.  The audience learned about a wide range of topics, including scholarships, standardized testing, and Optional Practical Training opportunities which enable graduates to acquire valuable hands-on employment experience and a head start in their careers.

The United States is the largest host country in the world, welcoming up to one million international students every year.  U.S. universities have rigorous academic standards, dynamic high-tech classrooms, advanced research facilities, and provide comprehensive academic and social support to international students.
