On June 18, English Language Fellows Christa Bixby and Emily Jones conducted a conference on English Language Teaching 2016 at UNITAR International University (UNITAR) in Kelana Jaya, Selangor. The one-day conference entitled “Thriving Classrooms: Inspirational Practices to Create Dynamic English Language Learning Environments” were attended by more than 150 English language professionals across Malaysia. The goal of the Conference was to provide a free space for educators to come together to share in their knowledge and best practices with one another so they can leave with examples of practical activities and lessons that will facilitate active English learning environments. The Conference featured 27 speakers from various backgrounds and expertise including Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETAs), E-Teacher alumni and also English Language Fellows. Each presenter was given 45 minutes to demonstrate and explain their practical classroom activities to a group of attendees. Presentations were revolved on the four skills, vocabulary and grammar instruction, class management, confidence building, learning routines and other creative ideas such as games, podcasts and poetry.

This Conference was well received by all participants and they thanked the U.S. Embassy for co-organizing this conference.
