During September 29-30 visit to Penang, Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) Manu Bhalla was thrilled to strengthen U.S. ties with government leaders, U.S. businesses, civil society, and alumni of U.S. government sponsored exchange programs. He was happy to join local government and YSEALI leaders in unveiling the “You’re Not Alone” mural that promotes mental health awareness and combats stigmas surrounding mental health. CDA Bhalla also met with the Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders) team and thanked them for their efforts to provide healthcare and mental health support to Rohingya refugees and other vulnerable communities affected by conflict. He enjoyed sampling several delicious street foods for which Penang is famous. He ended his visit by meeting staff at Starbucks’ signing store and underscoring U.S. commitment to promoting accessibility as part of our broader efforts in support of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEIA). U.S.-Penang ties are an integral part of the U.S.-Malaysia Comprehensive Partnership, whose 10th anniversary we look forward to celebrating in 2024.
