On her first official visit to Kedah, Ambassador Lakhdhir had an audience with Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah and Crown Prince Tunku Sarafuddin Badlishah Ibni Sultan Sallehuddin at the Istana Anak Bukit. Ambassador Lakhdhir also paid a courtesy call to Chief Minister Dato’ Seri DiRaja Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and Executive Councilor Datuk Suraya Yaacob.
Ambassador Lakhdhir’s first official trip to Kedah, included a special visit to the American Corner at the Kedah State Library in Alor Setar, where she had a wonderful time meeting a group of energetic and inquisitive local youngsters. During her stay, the Ambassador also visited Teleflex, a U.S. company providing medical technologies located at Kulim Hi-Tech Park.
Currently, there are three U.S. high school students attending local schools on the Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad program in Kedah, and this weekend the state will welcome 12 new Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (Fulbright Malaysia / MACEE). The ETAs will spend the next 10 months aiding local teachers while serving as cultural ambassadors for the U.S. and improving Malaysian students’ language abilities and knowledge of the United States.
