Ambassador Lakhdhir Visits Sabah

Ambassador Lakhdhir made her first official trip to Sabah on April 1-5, 2017. She visited the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center, Rainforest Discovery Center and Danau Girang Field Centre in Sandakan. In Kota Kinabalu, she met Foreign Minister Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman, Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman, and Minister of Tourism and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun. Her trip reiterated the close relationships with the Sabah State government and the people of Sabah. It also highlighted U.S. Embassy cooperation with local partners in conserving Sabah’s wildlife and environmental protection.

Ambassador Lakhdhir also met with the Sabah Foundation; visited the Sabah Wildlife Department’s Wildlife Health, Genetic, and Forensic Lab; and gave a talk on bilateral relations at UiTM. Apart from that she hiked around Mount Kinabalu and participated in an environment education program at Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park.
